Henning Hansen was President of the International Federation of Environmental Health – IFEH, in the period 2014 – 2016. In the period 2012 – 2014 he was the Chairman of the IFEH Europe Group – European Federation of Environmental Health (EFEH).
He is an IFEH Council representative from the Danish Association of Environment and Nature Protection Officers – ENVINA Denmark – in which he is now the Chair of ENVINA International Group.
ENVINA Denmark have 2,300 members – all of them being professionals in the area of environment and nature protection – employed by Local, Regional and State level.
In the period 1994 – 2003 Henning Hansen held the position as President of the Danish Association.
In 2018 at the Auckland, New Zealand, IFEH World Conference, he was by the IFEH awarded the IFEH Eric Foskett Award – the highest price that you can receive by the International Federation of Environmental Health, where recipients are recognized of having made a notable contribution to the work of the Federation in terms of Environmental Health.
He is on behalf of the IFEH the chairman of the IFEH Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction.
The IFEH holds a partnership with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, UN DRR for which Henning Hansen is responsible.
In terms of the UN SDG´s he is an expert that on behalf of the IFEH by invitation by the UN DRR made recommendations to the UN regarding the subgoals and especially regarding the now Worldwide used indicators.
For many years he has run international projects regarding the use of Sustainability Indicators. In the frame of IFEH such projects were run from the year of 2000 until 2018, chaired by Henning Hansen.
In his capacity and expertise, on the use of Sustainability Indicators, Climate Change, Disaster Risk Reduction, air pollution, and in general how to elaborate monitoring / indicator systems he has participated as speaker in a large variety of high level international conferences – organised by the UN, OECD, National / International Conferences (India, Lithuania, UK, EU etc.) – and at many IFEH Conferences around the Globe.
Henning Hansen is an environmental senior specialist holding a University degree in Mechanical engineering BSc (hon). He has a longstanding carrier for the last 34 years at Local Government in Denmark as Environmental Protection Officer. He is frequently involved in projects etc. giving advice to the Danish EPA and in partnership with the Danish Organisation of Municipalities regarding development of new legislation and guidelines.
