Ms Shashi Sareen has more than 40 years extensive experience in food safety and food control management in India as well as in other countries of the region (Asia). She is currently working as an International Expert with various international and national organizations in the areas of food safety and food controls.
Ms Sareen, as Senior Food Safety and Nutrition Officer with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in its Regional Office at Bangkok (2010 January till 2016 June), had been responsible for providing capacity support and advise to governments of the region for developing and implementing food safety and quality policies and legislation; standards and regulation; inspection, testing and certification infrastructures/ mechanisms, etc to strengthen their food safety and control systems to meet their SPS compliance under WTO Agreement.
Ms Sareen worked with the government of India in the area of standardization and Quality Control for a period of around 30 years in various capacities including Director and Chief Executive of Export Inspection Council of India, Director with Bureau of Indian Standards and Adviser (Quality) with Agricultural Produce Export Development Authority (APEDA). While with the government of India, she was responsible for export quality control especially of agriculture and food products to meet importing country requirements and played a significant role in streamlining export certification and negotiating Agreements with major trading partners for acceptance of Indian products. Ms Sareen has also worked with the retail private sector, as Vice President and Head of Quality Operations with Aditya Birla Retail Limited, one of the largest retail chains in India.
Ms Sareen is a qualified and registered Auditor/Lead Auditor and Trainer in HACCP, ISO-9000/ 14000/ 22000. She is also an assessor with the Accreditation body in India for both product and system certifications.
